Lviv. The Sculptures of Stryiskyi Park

For Lviv Sculpture Week 2023

Part of the collection of the ChervoneChorne art association: especially for Lviv's annual week, these unconventional creations by well-known authors were brought from historic Kaniv to the cultural capital.

The stone statues moved from the foot of Taras Hill to Stryiskyi Park and were set up along the alleys under the crowns of age-old plane trees and oaks.

Even before the exhibition opened, the installation of some exhibits sparked a mixed reaction among visitors and a stir on social media. The public refused to accept certain works, and the most scandalous stone characters came under attack.

The sculpture "Confident" by Vasyl Korchovyi caused a certain resonance and keeps receiving compliments in media publications. The granite beauty is created outside the canons of charm and offers a particular view of prettiness and attractiveness. The author's message is that beauty stereotypes are shaped by advertising, and the frames of perception are worth widening.

The sculpture "Water" by the Japanese author Yoshin Ogata was created in 2018 and stands by a spring and a landscaped brook. The spherical drop of water wears away the stone and symbolises the solving of the most difficult problems.

The artist is well versed in the theme of the human image, and in the sculpture "Twins" Diachenko underlines the duality of the personality.

In 2011 this is how Oleh Kapustiak saw a descendant of heroes.

From different angles the Structure by the Bulgarian artist Zdravko Zdravkov looks ever different, and one can fantasise about what exactly the author wished to convey.

Sadly, in the very first days little dogs left their marks on the park sculptures, and the owners of the four-legged did not hinder their darlings. On "Confident" traces of vandalism can be seen.

The sculptures on their temporary pedestals will be on display until November.
