Every year, in the moment when the last day of the departing year passes into the first day of the one to come, we open a new calendar that will keep us company for 365 days. By a calendar we mean a periodical reference publication in the form of a table or a journal, with a numbered reckoning of all the days, month by month.

Pedestrian Streets of Ukraine and Their Tourist Appeal
The streams of cars several lanes deep on the city arteries are becoming ever more endless, and our cities are caught in a web of transport links.
How wonderful it is that streets are being created where the main figure is the pedestrian, for whom comfortable conditions have been made and to whom cars are barred. Usually they are located in the historic centre, festive events are held on them, and their landmarks are the calling cards of the cities.
Let us stroll along some of them, beloved of townsfolk and tourists, and begin with the main artery of Kyiv, which becomes pedestrian on weekends and holidays.

Pyrohiv. Wooden Churches of the Folk Architecture Museum
The wooden churches at Pyrohiv not only make up the museum's collection but are also functioning churches. They were built in various regions. When new churches appeared there, and it turned out that there was not always anyone to repair and preserve the old ones, they were moved to the largest museum in Ukraine.

Pyrohiv. Wooden windmills
Over the steppe, above the valleys, the wind played with the feather grass,
and it came upon an old, abandoned windmill.
And the wind called out to it:
"For nigh on half a century now
you have stood here alone,
as if enchanted forever."
(A song by Bohdan Kyik)
