Roof Tiles - a Roofing Material With a Centuries-Old History and Unique Properties

The tiles on the roofs are the pages of the centuries-old history of buildings, archival documents bearing the makers' autographs and the date of manufacture.

 

Velykyi Liubin. Architectural and Natural Landmarks of an Ancient Resort

Recently, among fans of domestic tourism there has been a surge of interest in small towns and villages that have preserved a distinctive culture and historical landmarks. The settlement of Velykyi Liubin lies 20 kilometres south-west of Lviv and has a whole list of architectural and natural landmarks, for which 3-4 hours are enough to see them. The chronicle town of Liubin has been known since the 13th century; it was repeatedly destroyed by wars, destroyed again by the enemy after being rebuilt, but time and again it was reborn. The owners of the lands and the castle changed; it was passed down by inheritance, given as a dowry, and even lost at cards. In this settlement with a population of 4,500, the memory of the locality's formation and development has been preserved. In the eastern part of the settlement, on Zamkova Street, stands a palace founded on the site of a 17th-century castle.

Tatariv. A Carpathian Resort, Tourist Centre, and Popular Health Retreat

Tatariv is a well-known Hutsul village in the Nadvirna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region. The village stretches out in branch-hamlets and homestead-kolybas with breweries and cafes along the Prut River from Mykulychyn to Yablunytsia and Vorokhta. Back at the end of the 19th century, the area was known as a low-mountain balneological climatic resort and was listed in European travel guides. In modern Ukraine, the natural landscapes of Tatariv are known to experienced travellers and novice tourists, lovers of cycling and hiking trips, mushroom pickers and gatherers of forest berries. Even some of the powerful have chosen the valleys and slopes of Tatariv's hills for their residences and dachas.

Ukraine has about 30,000 mountain rivers, and we admire the overwhelming majority of these watercourses in the Carpathians. The Lazeshchyna is a typical small mountain river with a stony bed and a swift current; it is 21 km long and flows within the Rakhiv district in Transcarpathia.

Winter gardens were very popular in the 18th–19th centuries, and in castles and villas wealthy owners would add halls with panoramic windows for growing exotic plants. In Lviv, besides the greenhouse complex in the botanical garden of the Ivan Franko University, another subtropical oasis has been created — it is located in Stryiskyi Park. Admission to the tropical flora exhibition is free.
