Vyhoda. A logging centre and the start of a ride on the Carpathian Tram

The settlement of Vyhoda, in the Dolyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, arose in 1883 thanks to the development of logging. I do not know how the locality got such a name, but the settlement has an advantageous location at the confluence of two rivers, the Mizunka and the Svicha, as well as a railway link with Dolyna. I came to see this settlement after I rode on the Carpathian Tram, whose terminus is located here. The timber that was harvested for the mines of the Donbas was in demand, and after the Second World War came the peak of development both of the industry and of Vyhoda. Sadly, other times have now arrived. The administration of the timber-processing plant used to be in a building that is now let out to shops, banks and pharmacies.

For the cultural centre, adorned with a mosaic panel, times too are not the best now.

Now the forestry administration has also settled into a fine building. Tickets for the tourist Carpathian Tram are sold right here.

At the narrow-gauge railway station you can drop into the "Vyhodianka" restaurant.

A monument to our national poet was erected in the park in 2004 for the 120th anniversary of Vyhoda, and is one of the best in the region.

As I was photographing the bust of I. Ya. Franko, a girl was passing by me and told me that not far away there is a Memorial Park, to which I then headed. Along the way I saw shops.

And this is a monument to the soldiers, fellow villagers, who fell during the Second World War and in the tragic post-war years.

In the park the war memorial looked quite well kept, although the monument was erected back in the 1970s.

In another part of the park are the common graves of Soviet soldiers. In my view, their condition had become neglected by autumn.

On the benches sat lads and girls, among them the one who had told me about the park. And a young mother, who was strolling with a pram, in answer to my question about what was in the interesting little house that was being repaired at the time, said that it was the former villa of the timber merchant Baron Popper. Now there is a library there, and there are plans to open a museum. I would like to see its exhibits and displays.

The administration of the settlement council sits in a beautiful and unusual building with stained-glass windows. Photographing it is hindered, as always, by cars and trees.

On this same main street a chapel has been built.

There are 2 churches in Vyhoda. I could not get onto the grounds — the wicket gate was closed.

Nearby, right by the road, is a well in good order under a canopy. And there is even a new little bucket offered for use.

Across the road is a kindergarten, whose charges had been taken out for a walk.

In the settlement many five-storey blocks have been built; although they are standard designs, differences can nonetheless be observed.

There are motels too, and cafes.

I had already gone past the bus stop to see a wooden house. But what was in this house I could not establish.

Then I turned back, and soon a bus to Dolyna pulled up — it is only about 5-6 kilometres to it.
I liked everything in this Subcarpathian settlement, and I share my impressions with you.
