The suburban electric train Avdiivka-Chaplyne runs every day, 4 times a day. The train covers the distance of about 140 km in roughly 3 hours.
Accordingly, on schedule the train passes through the stations Ocheretyne, Zhelanna, Hrodivka, Pokrovsk, Udachna, Mezhova, Demuryne, Prosiana.
The train runs along the Donetsk and Prydniprovska railways and links Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
While you ride to your destination, you can rest and take in through the little window the station settlements and their terminals, the industrial enterprises, the boundless fields, and the natural landscapes.
At the stations Ocheretyne, Zhelanna, Mezhova, and Demuryne the ticket offices have closed because of unprofitability.
Tickets can be bought on the Ukrzaliznytsia website or from the conductor.
The train crews are always polite and friendly. The suburban train is served by 2 conductors.
According to the conductor, there is no correlation between the days of the week and the passenger occupancy of the carriages. The passenger flows are affected by other factors, including weather conditions and quarantine restrictions.
The driver does not always announce the next stops, and the announcements over the radio sound indistinct. Passengers need to prepare to get off in good time and to bear in mind that at some stopping points the platforms are short, so one must move to the front carriages.
One happens to hear complaints about faulty doors, spoiled seats, and dirt. The old train is not easy to keep in good order.
The passengers are largely to blame themselves: they leave rubbish on the seats, slash the benches, put their feet on them, and unscrew and unbolt everything that can be unscrewed. The warnings in the vestibule not to smoke do not stop the smokers even a few minutes before getting off.
On the suburban train, peddling of all sorts of odds and ends flourishes, including drinks and food. Every day, several times a trip, parading from carriage to carriage, a trader in a loud voice, with jokes and patter, advertises knives / markers / sticking plaster.
On the suburban trains many a pearl of folk lore is born. On the Avdiivka-Chaplyne route the passengers have thought up characterisations for some of the stations: Demuryne station — there sits a grieving granny; Mezhova station — there sits a lifeless granny.
Despite all the troubles, the suburban train remains one of the safest, cheapest, and most convenient kinds of public transport.
