In 2021, suburban trains arrive in Avdiivka fromLozova, Chaplyne, Pokrovsk. Since December 2020, UZ has extended the route of the "Maiak" passenger train No. 135/136 Kyiv-Pokrovsk to Avdiivka station, and since 2021 the regional train No. 826 Dnipro-Avdiivka.
The station's name comes from the village that lay next to the construction of the steel track. In 1884, a single-track section of the Katerynynska Railway was put into operation, linking the Donetsk and Kryvyi Rih basins and, within the Donbas, Chaplyne and Yasynuvata.

A branch of the Donetsk Coal Railway adjoined the Katerynynska trunk line at Avdiivka.
In memory of the first train that passed through the station on 18 May 1884, a memorial stone has been installed on the platform.

The steel artery of this industrial region was built in difficult conditions with the help of the spade and the pick. Freight flows grew, and a second track was additionally laid.
At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, with the increase in capacity, Avdiivka was an important railway junction with a station building, a goods station, and a locomotive depot. The two-storey building with stone decor housed the services of the Katerynynska Railway division. From 1922 the premises were occupied by an FZU school, and later a vocational-technical school.

Great problems arose for the locomotive crews because of the lack of water. An artesian well drilled in 1903, and the Brooklyn wells that were created, which use underground flows of water, improved the situation. A contemporary of the Katerynynska line, the brick water tower served for refuelling steam locomotives. It is a pity that no use was found for one of the oldest buildings in Avdiivka, and this industrial monument is falling into ruin.

At the beginning of the 20th century, 2,500 people lived in the trackside settlement. At that time Avdiivka had a working club, a hospital, a school, and a garden for strolling. The railway workers' House of Culture has long been closed.

In honour of the railway soldiers who died during the years of the Nazi occupation, a memorial sign has been installed.

In the two-class railway school of 1899 there was an Orthodox church, and staff were trained for work on the railway. In the years of Soviet rule the church was closed, the school was moved to another building, and a station of young technicians was set up on the premises. Now the building, with its brick decor and vaulted windows, is once again occupied by the Church of St. Nicholas the Hierarch and Wonderworker, founded in 1901.

Special attention is deserved by the houses built at the end of the 19th century in the MShS quarter (Ministry of Railways).

The two-storey houses of natural stone and red brick have served the railway station's workers for more than 130 years. The small flats, with stove heating and without other amenities, are almost all occupied by people of small means.

Water fills the containers from the standpipe in a thin trickle. In the yard of one of the houses there is a water-storage reservoir.

The entrance doors are broken, the corridors are in impenetrable darkness, and the chimney flues need repair and fire-prevention maintenance.
