| Lviv. The Photo Museum |
The Lviv Photo Museum at 1 Profesorska Street opened its doors on 12 July 2022, on Photographer's Day.
On the shelves and stands are rich collections of photographic equipment, accessories, films, slides, negatives, chemicals, old photographs and frames.
Visitors can see the ancestor of photography — the daguerreotype, which was created on the principle of the light sensitivity of silver iodide. Worthy of attention are the first stereoscopes and stereo photographs of the late 19th century and the bellows cameras. It seems only recently that the compact Kodaks and Polaroids were in use, capturing and producing snapshots in an instant.
Every visitor has the chance to study the exhibits and, camera in hand, to puzzle out the secrets of optical, chemical and physical phenomena. Anyone who wishes may use the specialist literature, themed publications and issues of the journal 'Light and Shadows'.
A similar museum repository operates in Khmelnytskyi and in a branch of the Kyiv Polytechnic, but the Lviv Photo Museum is also known for holding educational events — lectures, film screenings and meetings with interesting people. The address of the photo museum: Lviv, 1 Profesorska Street. The Scientific and Technical Library of Lviv Polytechnic National University, 2nd floor.
Admission is free.
