To see the beauty of the Carpathians, to drink healing water from life-giving springs, to hear the legends of the land of the molfars, to stroll through the picturesque corners of Boikivshchyna — the Carpathian tram awaits at the start of the tour in the village of Vyhoda. To the rhythmic swaying of the little carriages you barely have time to turn your head to admire the evergreen forests, blooming meadows, canyons and waterfalls. And you also want to remember the guide's account of the history of the narrow-gauge railway, built at the end of the 19th century to haul valuable timber.

Volosianka, Skole district, Lviv region. Cable car

Coordinates: 48°47’35"N 23°27’42"E

The fast ski runs of Slavske — among the most popular in the Carpathians. The ski resort "Zakhar Berkut" is located on the north-eastern side of the village of Volosianka. 9,000 metres of snowy descents of various difficulty are served by 3 button lifts and one chairlift. For fans of summer recreation, the longest cable car in Ukraine makes the ascent to Mount Vysokyi Verkh.

Syniak, Mukachevo district, Zakarpattia region

Syniak — a ski and balneological resort of Zakarpattia. Winter recreation in the Carpathians is impossible to imagine without a spot of skiing and a fast descent down snow-covered hillsides. In 2001 two ski runs were created, 950 metres and 1200 metres long, with a height difference of 220 metres. On some sections there are hills and ridges of natural origin.

The Dovbush Rocks. Ivano-Frankivsk region

The Dovbush Rocks — a one-of-a-kind natural phenomenon, an accumulation of stone monoliths 30-50 metres high in bizarre shapes. In the mid-18th century the camp of the Carpathian Robin Hood, Oleksa Dovbush, stood here. In a mysterious cave the folk hero's treasures are hidden; you need only say the magic word and the treasure will reveal itself to the eye. Visitors are invited to pass through the "Purgatory" — a deep, dark fissure that cleaves the rock massif. Climbers love this ridge and have laid out a multitude of routes of various difficulty categories.

Lake Zhuravlyne (Dead Lake), Skole district, Lviv region

Lake Zhuravlyne — a living mystery of the Carpathians, a stunning marvel of the Lviv region created by the sorcerous power of nature. An island of interwoven logs, branches, grass and moss endlessly whirls in a strange waltz. For a long time the locals gave the bubbling lake a wide berth and, for the dark colour of its surface, named it the Black Lake.

Coordinates: 48°29’41"N 23°29’55"E

A captivating excursion to Mount Makovytsia on a 1050-metre chairlift lasts about 30 minutes. At 850 metres above sea level, the observation deck opens up a wonderful panorama of the Borzhava mountain range, the "Synevyr" national nature park, Mount Kuk, the district centre of Mizhhiria, and the Rika River.

Lake Synevyr, Zakarpattia region

Coordinates: 48°36’59"N 23°41’0"E

The largest and best-known lake in the Carpathians — Synevyr. Its depth reaches 24 metres, much more than in the Sea of Azov. By autumn the streams that feed the water surface lose their healing power, and the lake grows shallow; an island emerges in its middle, resembling an eye socket. Swimming and fishing in the Sea Eye, as the lake is also called, is forbidden. You can only stroll beside it, be enchanted by its beauty, and drink healing water from the springs that grant health, beauty and love.
