Donetsk. The Memory of Old Yuzivka

Modern cities are losing their historical appearance. Intensive construction activity changes the styles of urban development, and in the process that very atmosphere disappears — the one that helps you feel the wellsprings of a city's birth. In Donetsk only a handful of buildings from the pre-revolutionary era have survived, from the time when the industrial centre was called Yuzivka and the economic development of the region was just beginning.

Berdychiv. A Brief Historical Excursion

As you approach the railway station of Berdychiv, the lines of a song come to mind — one banned in Soviet times, by unknown authors, yet beloved of chanson performers: "And the train rode quietly on to Berdychiv". The crossing, in this county town, of railway trunk lines from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Rivne, Odesa, and Poland made Berdychiv famous in the musical genre.

Nizhyn. A Town of Our History

Nizhyn — our ancient Nizhyn, known since the times of Kyivan Rus, which has not become a tasty morsel for the pilgrimage of travellers. And in vain. Nizhyn is that town where you can not only touch the history of the state but also feel its atmosphere — quiet, calm and cosy.

The Bilokuzmynivka Rocks. A Wonder of the Virgin Steppe

In the Donetsk region, where the cities have merged into one continuous industrial agglomeration and the distance between them is about 5-10 kilometres, nature has given this industrial region an astonishing creation — The Bilokuzmynivka chalk cliffs.

Tyapche in the Dolyna Area

I first saw this small Subcarpathian village when I was at the Goshiv monastery. At the foot of the Yasna Mountain, on the eastern side, houses and a church could be seen.

Verkhni Hai. A Subcarpathian Village of 600 Years

I went to Verkhni Hai, in the Drohobych district of the Lviv region, to see the wooden Church of the Holy Trinity.
